The Duke of Burgundy (2014) dir. Peter Strickland, English language, 104 minutes.
The new British master of the psychedelic palette and mise-en-scene writes and directs an exploration of BDSM dynamics in an idyllic existence of two lepidopterology enthusiasts. Not everything is as it seems for the couple, who may not have the relationship either thinks they have, or thinks they want. It pays tribute to Jess Franco, and Juraj Herz (see: The Cremator), but is one of the most independent and stunning films of the last few years.
